How to Use Climbing Bolts

Rock and mountain climbing is a strenuous and dangerous activity that thrills thousands and kills hundreds each year. This sport involves the individual to climb the mountain through the use of their hands and feet alone. This method of adventure requires that the individual has a high level of strength and endurance in order to pull and push themselves to the highest points of the world. Once at the summit of a mountain or rock face, the climber then has to descend back to the world with the rest of the human population. For these people, their whole life is dependent on their ability, the weather and the climbing bolts they place as their sole safety net.

Climbing bolts are pieces of metal that are screwed or hammered into a rock face in order to attach a climbing line. This bolt and the line is all that a climber has to prevent their fall from a mountain or rock face from being fatal. These climbing bolts must be installed properly to ensure that they do not slip from the rock, resulting in the death or sever injury of the climber, rather than protecting the climber. Most of these bolts are designed so that they can be manually screwed in between natural fissures in the rock face. These bolts grip the rock with small teeth and hold tight within the crack. Some bolts must be hammered into the rock and require a weak spot in the rock to be installed.

Both styles of climbing bolts can be dangerous to the mountain or rock face. The holes can be places of extreme and heightened erosion. The destruction of the mountain by the climbers who love it may not be immediately apparent, but can be seen as generations of people climb the mountain, noticing the holes and the damage caused. There are some climbers who leave their bolts in the mountain with the hope that other climbers use these bolts and not create additional holes in the mountain face. Most climbers do not use these bolts though due to the concern of the bolt slipping and being ineffective.
